Buying a car, owner cannot find the title?

I live in VA. I am buying a car from an individual, straight cash, no lien or anything on the car. She has been looking for the title for a couple of days and has not been able to find it. I need this car before Thursday. She is leaving to go out of town Thursday and my aunt and uncle (who I live with and share a vehicle with) are going out of town on Friday, and not returning until Monday. My question is, is there a way to transfer the title or get the car registered in my name without the title? Maybe using the bill of sale? I heard that was something that could be done. Any help anyone could give me would be helpful. I know this person on a personal level so I know all about the car and that she really does own it and all that stuff. Thanks!
